Rio is a handsome 10 yr old AQHA who's family surrendered him to us in May. Rio is a former lesson horse but has navicular and so is only good for light riding. He does great with pads and shoes. He's happy easy keeper and is a top of the herd horse.
Sixes is the youngest of the boys and probably close to 8 months old. When he came to the sanctuary he still had foal camo on his legs.
He's a friendly little guy who nickers when he sees you coming! He also seems to be pretty smart, as he has figured out how to eat the grass on the other side of the fence. He should be easy to train and bond with!
Rusty is one of the funniest horses at the sanctuary. He is just a little guy at roughly 14 hands but with the biggest heart. Rusty has been helping as a goodwill ambassador for the past year and has participated in Mental health day at Central Schools and Breakfast on the Farm . He loves little kids and is very happy to receive all the attention. He can get a bit nervous in new places and takes a few minutes to settle down.
Rusty has been ridden by our trainer and definitely knows what to do. He can be a little pushy but just needs a quick reminder of what the job is. He has been ridden both saddled and bareback without any issues. He does have an indentation on his nose where a halter had been left on too long and a popped knee. He can be a bit head shy and does best in a hackamore or sidepull. He would love to find a little person of his own or even help spoil grandkids when they visit. Rusty is 17 years and still has lots of life to share.
This yearling is all legs! Austin has the appendix look to him. He has had the hardest time of the yearlings as he was very sick after the pen. However, this boy is a fighter and is making a complete recovery. He's still on the thin side from not feeling well, but gaining daily! Now that he's feeling better we will start halter breaking him. He will be ready for adoption once he has been cleared by our vet.
Jewel is originally from Montana. She was bought at auction and hauled to a kill pen in Cannon Falls, where we were able to pull her. Jewel tends to be a bottom of the herd horse and that put her at a disadvantage during her travels. She came to the sanctuary with a lot of cuts and bumps. Unfortunately for Miss Jewel some of those cuts became infected and she spent a lot of time being a patient at the farm. This does leave her a bit skittish around new people but she is very trusting once she gets to know you. Jewel has made a complete recovery and is a happy healthy girl.
She is a sweet in your pocket kind of horse and has great potential. She has worked with our trainer to evaluate her riding ability and her mental state. While Jewel can be a bit nervous it was obvious she has had training and been ridden before. She would do best with an intermediate rider who is looking for a fun project. We think she would make a great gaming pony. This spunky girl has a lot of heart and affection to share! She 15 years old and roughly 14.2 hands.
Beau is a 10 year old OTTB. He has been retired from the track for about 4 years and in that time has been a handsome pasture pet. He has been in training with Ellen Kealey Horsemanship in the past and is ready for a new job! Beau has a ton of energy and can be a bit silly. He loves to play and squeal with the other geldings.
Beau is roughly 16 hands. He stands well for just about anyone and will stand calmly in cross ties. He has been stalled in the past. Beau has been sitting for a bit now and will need a restart but given a consistent schedule this boy will be ready to turn heads this spring!
